Frédéric Pélassy
was performing in public by the age of 12. Yehudi Menuhin, having heard
him play Paganini, helped the young Pelassy to develop his early career.
Between the ages of 14 and 16 he was awarded prizes by such leading French
institutions as the Menuhin Foundation, the Festival Musical d'Automne
des Jeunes Interpretes and the Cziffra Foundation. He was also sponsored
by the Philip Morris Foundation and was a Laureate of the Tibor Varga
International Violin Competition. At 16 years old he recorded his first CD.
He continued his musical studies and in 1987, Sandor Vegh accepted him
among his students at the Salzburg Mozarteum also entrusting him with the
use of a bow that had belonged to Joachim. The following year, he was
selected by Yehudi Menuhin and Alberto Lysy to enter the Gstaad
Interntional Yehudi Menuhin Music Academy. Working with both of those
artists he became the youngest member of the Camerata Lysy and given the
privilege of both performing alongside of and under the direction of
Yehudi Menuhin. Later tutelage was under Walter Levin at Chicago's
Steans Institute for Young Artists; with Mauricio Fuks in Montreal;
and Zakhar Bron in Santander, Spain.
Since completing his studies and within a relatively short span of time,
Frédéric Pélassy has performed in some forty countries
around the world performing a violin made by Stefan-Peter Greiner.
Additionally, his discography now comprises twenty CDs, covering composers
ranging from Bach to Debussy through Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert,
Paganini, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Bruch, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and Franck.
A youthful member of the faculty of the Hector Berlioz Conservatoire
in Paris, Frédéric Pélassy has given Master Classes
on five continents.
